{% endhint %}

1. Make sure you've [installed the Discord Bot](/subber-docs-public/how-to-start-in-5-min/3.-install-subber-discord-bot.md) (troubleshooting help [here](/subber-docs-public/faqs/how-do-i-fix-discord-bot-issues.md))
2. Make sure the Subber Bot has manage role permissions and is sorted above the role that you want it to assign in your server's Role settings.

3. Make sure the Subber Discord Bot is sorted above the role you want to assign in your server's Roles.
4. Add the Discord Role ID in your Giveaway or Allowlist

 * To get the ID of a role without mentioning it, enable developer mode in the Appearance section of your user settings, then go to the role menu in the server settings and right click on the role you want the ID of, then click "Copy ID".

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://subber.gitbook.io/subber-docs-public/faqs/how-do-i-have-the-discord-bot-assign-roles.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
